'Blood Punch' - Movie Review

I've been wanting to watch this one for a while: essentially a bloody mystery box version of "Groundhog Day." As it turns out, surprisingly effective. Just keep in mind: when I say "bloody," a lot of people die. Or, because it's like "Groundhog Day," the same three people die - over and over again in a horrible cycle.

Milton (Milo Cawthorne) is a guy who has most of a degree in chemistry when he's caught cooking meth. He meets Skyler (Olivia Tennet) in rehab, falls hard for her, and follows her to a cabin in the woods to cook meth for her and her "psychotic" boyfriend Russell (Ari Boyland). Skyler told him upfront how terrible her boyfriend was, and he followed her anyway. There are double-crosses, killings ... and every morning they wake up in the same day.

The movie is well structured and has several interesting twists. It's dark, with multiple betrayals - which ultimately reach even beyond multiple deaths. Recommended for fans of time loop stories who have a high tolerance for blood.

Another particularly bizarre pair of twists that have nothing to do with the plot are to do with the origins of the movie: first, the cast and crew mostly worked on the TV series "Power Rangers RPM" together (the target audience of that and this are about as far apart as is possible to imagine), and secondly most of the actors are from New Zealand (and the remaining ones from Australia). Which is interesting, because I thought they were American. I guess the choice of accent was to appeal to the larger American market ...
